How to measure an inductance of a coil without using LCR meter?

How to measure an inductance of a coil without using LCR meter? To measure the inductance of a coil , one can use a LCR meter. But, measuring the inductance of the coil without LCR meter is also not a difficult task. We can do it in a simple way by using some mathematical expressions. Consider a coil as shown above whose inductance is to be measured and then follow these steps:- 1) Take a battery and an ammeter and connect them in series with coil. Take a voltmeter and measure the battery voltage. The ammeter will give current through the coil. The voltmeter will give voltage across the coil. Then find resistance of the coil by using mathematical expression 2) Disconnect the battery and connect an A.C source of some frequency "f" hz across the coil. Then using voltmeter and ammeter reading, find the impedence of the coil by using mathematical expression Now, as we have the impedence of the coil and resistance of the coil, we can now find the inductive reactance of the coil us...

Power efficiency and all day efficiency of a transformer

Power efficiency and all day efficiency of transformer The definition of  Power efficiency and all day efficiency of a transformer is as given below Definition: Power efficiency is defined as the ratio of Output power to the Input power. Mathematically, it is represented as  All day efficiency  is defined as the ratio of Output energy to the Input energy calculated over 24 hours. Mathematically, it is represented as  Q) Now, the question is why two efficiencies are required for the transformer? Let us first know about the types of transformers based on the location. They are as listed below: Power transformer. Distribution transformer. Power transformers are located on the sending end/generating end side of power system  whereas the distribution transformer are located on recieving end/load end side. What is the need of Power efficiency? The power system is an interconnected network and the power transformer is located on the sending end side of the system. Henc...

Advantages of High Voltage Transmission

Advantages of High Voltage Transmission  The advantages of High Voltage Transmission  for bulk power transfer are as listed below: 1. Size and cost of the conductor is reduced. The amount of apparent power to be transmitted is given by For the bulk power transmission, the amount of apparent power to be transmitted is large. Hence, from the relation We can say that as the transmission line voltage increases, the amount of the current flowing through line decreases. Now, since the (area of cross section of conductor) is directly proportional to the line current. Hence, the size and cost of the conductor decreases.  2. Transmission line loss will be reduced. The power loss in the transmission line is given by As the magnitude of line current reduces, due to increase in transmission line voltage, the power losses in the line also reduces. 3. Transmission line efficiency will increase. Since the transmission line losses reduces, the transmission efficiency increases. 4. Maximu...

Which are the most common mistakes that an engineering student do?

Which are the most common mistakes that an engineering student do? The most common mistakes that an engineering student do  knowingly or unknowingly during their entire academics are as listed below:- 1.  Not referring standard textbooks. The top most problem an engineering student will face during its entire life is not having good concepts. Now what i meant by good concepts? Some of the students will think that we are in good colleges and our professor's are teaching us everything and we are referring their notes or some local textbooks so where is the lack in concepts? The answer is when a someone teaches you something then he/she will teach you with what they understood about the topic. Now you will think what is the problem in that? See, when someone teaches you a topic you will take the explanation as granted and don't think about how that particular explanation justifies the topic. So read standard textbooks always. Then it doesn't mean that you shouldn't attend ...
